Black Galaxy Granite

Black Galaxy is a jet-black granite scattered with small gold and bronze flecks that sparkle like stars, hence the name. Quarried in Andhra Pradesh, it is one of India's best-known granites and a classic choice for kitchen countertops, flooring and staircases.

What Black Galaxy looks like

The flecks are bronze-coloured mineral crystals set in an even black base. They are spread fairly evenly, so slabs match well across a large kitchen or floor. Under a mirror polish the gold catches light from every angle: warm lighting makes the stone look rich, cool white light makes it look sharp and modern.

Where it works best

  • Kitchen countertops and backsplashes
  • Living-room and lobby flooring
  • Staircases, risers and skirting
  • Dining tables and vanity tops

Care and maintenance

Black Galaxy is dense, handles hot pans well and rarely stains. On a polished black surface, hard-water marks and fingerprints can show, so wipe it dry after cleaning. A leather finish hides them better if that bothers you.
