Jaisalmer Yellow Stone

Jaisalmer Yellow is a golden limestone from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, the stone that gives the 'Golden City' its colour. It brings a warm, sunlit look to elevations, wall cladding, courtyards and heritage-style homes.

What Jaisalmer Yellow looks like

An even honey-to-golden yellow with a fine, smooth grain and occasional darker specks or fossil traces. It reads soft and matt in natural or honed finish, and takes on a warmer glow when polished.

Where it works best

  • Front elevations and exterior cladding
  • Courtyards and verandas, in a honed finish
  • Jaalis, pillars and carved details
  • Feature walls and heritage-style interiors

Care and maintenance

As a limestone it is softer and more porous than granite, so seal it after installation, especially outdoors. Clean with water and a pH-neutral cleaner, never acid. It is not recommended for kitchen counters, where acids and oil can mark it.

Jaisalmer Yellow Stone: common questions

Is Jaisalmer Yellow a marble or a granite?

Neither. It is a limestone, often sold as 'Jaisalmer marble'. It is softer than granite, which is why it carves so well for jaalis and pillars.

Can Jaisalmer stone be used for an exterior elevation?

Yes, it is widely used for elevations. Seal it so rain and dust do not soak in, and use thicker 20 to 30 mm pieces for cladding.
